  2. Eye Test Certificate: An eye test is mandatory for all applicants aged 21 and above. Visit an RTA-approved eye test centre (costs AED 140–180).
  3. Clear Traffic Fines: Settle all outstanding fines via the RTA website, app, or kiosk.
  4. Valid Driving Licence: The licence must be in your possession and not a temporary one.
  5. UAE Residency: Visitors on a tourist visa cannot renew their visas.

Note: UAE and GCC citizens can renew their licences for 10 years, while expatriates get 5 years. Drivers over 65 need renewals every 3 years.

In the first half of 2026, the RTA added 100 new approved eye test centres, bringing the total to 434 locations across Dubai. Eye tests can now be completed in around 10 minutes, making the renewal process faster and more convenient.

If your driving licence has been expired for more than 10 years, the RTA Smart Kiosk cannot process the renewal.

What You Need to Do:

  • Contact the RTA directly for further guidance.
  • You may be required to pay additional fees of up to AED 850.
  • You may also need to retake the required driving tests before your licence can be renewed.
